Theme:  Leveraging Emerging Technologies for Data-Driven Development for Africa.

The 6th Africa Regional Workshop of the International Association for Social Science Information Services and Technology (IASSIST), an international organization of professionals working with information technology and data services to support research and teaching will be held in collaboration with the East African School of Library and Information Science, Makerere University. The workshop will take place 4th   to 6th November, 2026 at Imperial Resort Beach Hotel, Entebbe, Uganda The workshop will be conducted as an  in-person event.

IASSIST and Makerere University welcome submissions for presentations, papers, workshops, and posters. The theme of this year’s Workshop is “Leveraging Emerging Technologies for Data-Driven Development for Africa.”

Submissions on the following topics will be prioritized:

  3. Data documentation, metadata standards, and harmonization across Africa
  4. Data ethics, governance, and regulatory frameworks in organisations
  5. Data Literacy, knowledge, skills development, and workforce capacity building in Africa
  6. Data rescue, digitization, and preservation of records and archives
  7. Data-driven Academics and Research Innovation for development
  8. Enhancing Technology and Data for Agriculture and Environmental Management
  9. Harnessing Smart Technologies for Discovery, Capturing, and Inclusive Access to Data
  10. Managing data for smart cities, digital health, digital business, and digital education initiatives
  11. Partnership and Collaboration across government, academia, communities, and industry
  12. Re-imaging Data Management Principles, e.g, Collective Benefit, Authority Control, Responsibility and Ethics (CARE), and Findable Accessible Interoperable Reusable (FAIR)
